On the left side of the image, Sister, Girl, and Boy stand together outdoors, gazing up at the sky with expressions of wonder. Boy stands slightly in front, extending one hand outward as if pointing or waving at the cloud figure above. Girl stands between the other two, looking upward with curiosity, while Sister stands behind them, gently resting a hand on Girl's shoulder. Above them in a bright blue daytime sky, a friendly human-shaped cloud figure with a smiling face appears to wave down at the group. The right side of the image is plain white background.

Boy spots the cloud man first. 'Up there!' he yells, pointing at the sky. 'There is a man in the clouds!' Girl and I stare up. And there he is. A big, fluffy shape floating in the air above us, waving like he knows us. 'He is waving at me,' says Boy. 'He is waving at all of us,' I say. 'No,' says Boy. 'Just me.'

Page 2
On the right side of the image, Sister, Boy, and Girl are lying and sitting in a grassy field on a sunny day, gazing up at large white clouds drifting across a blue sky. Sister is lying on her back with her face turned upward, looking content. Boy is propped up on his stomach with his legs kicked up behind him, watching the sky with a curious expression. Girl is sitting upright, leaning forward slightly, gazing up at the clouds with wonder. The scene is set outdoors in an open suburban-area field with dry golden grass, scattered trees in the background, and a bright daytime sky with billowing clouds. A group of small meerkats stand upright in the tall grass on the left-center background, watching the children. A lizard sits on a rock in the lower-right corner.

We flop down in the grass to look. Boy lies on his belly with his chin in his hands. Girl sits up, her eyes wide. I stretch out on my back and watch the clouds drift and shift. The man is gone. 'Maybe he is scared of us,' Girl whispers. 'Clouds do not get scared,' says Boy. 'He is just... loading.' Even the beasts in the grass stand very still, like they are waiting too.

Page 3
On the left side of the image, Sister is dancing joyfully at a three-quarter angle facing the viewer, with one arm raised toward the sky, doing a jig in an open grassy yard in a suburban American neighborhood setting. She has an excited, celebratory pose with her body mid-movement, wearing her light blue hoodie with white drawstrings and her bright red headband tied in a bow. Above her in the blue sky, two cloud-shaped figures β€” a man and a woman β€” appear to be dancing and leaping together among the clouds. A tree stands to the far left. A small kitten is visible near Sister's feet, appearing to follow along with her dance. Two additional small animals are near the tree on the far left.

Then he comes back with a friend. Two cloud shapes leap and spin in the air like a big, fluffy dance pair. They kick their cloudy legs. They swing their cloudy arms. They are doing a jig. 'I know this one!' I jump up and dance along with them. A kitten hops at my feet too. Her hops look more like flops, but she does her best. It looks like the clouds are copying me. I grin. 'No. I am copying them.'

Page 4
On the right side of the image, Boy sits in a grassy field, one arm raised and pointing up at the sky, gazing with wonder at large cloud formations shaped like men with their arms raised as if singing. The scene is set outdoors on a bright, sunny day in an open meadow with scattered trees and gentle hills in the background. The cloud figures dominate the right-center sky, their arms lifted dramatically. Two or three small birds are on the ground near Boy.

The cloud people stop dancing. They plant their big fluffy feet, throw back their heads, and sing. No sound comes down. But their mouths are wide open and their arms are out, and I dare anyone to say it is not the loudest, silliest song in the sky. Boy sits up and points. 'They are singing! I bet it is a big, silly song!' The birds on the ground tilt their heads, like even they want to make out the song.

Page 5
On the left side of the image, Sister, Boy, and Girl are dancing joyfully on a flat, open dirt ground, facing the sky with their arms raised. Boy is in the middle pointing upward, Girl is to his right dancing with arms outstretched, and Sister is furthest right mid-dance with her arms up and one leg lifted. Above them in the sky, a band of cloud figures shaped like musicians can be seen β€” some appearing to play instruments and raise their arms, with smiling faces formed in the clouds. All three characters have excited, happy expressions as they dance to the cloud band's music. Two small meerkats are visible on the ground near the children β€” one on the far left and one between the children, both standing upright on their hind legs.

Then the sky fills up. Cloud drummers. Cloud horn players. A full cloud band, grinning down at us with big puffy smiles. The drums boom. The horns blare. And this time we can feel it. A deep, rolling boom, boom, boom that makes the ground hum under our feet. 'Dance!' yells Girl, and we do not wait. Boy bounces. Girl spins. I kick my legs so high that my sock slips off. Even the beasts are bobbing, and I am not making that up.

Page 6
On the right side of the image, Girl, Sister, and Boy stand together in a suburban yard looking up at the stormy sky with expressions of awe and wonder. Girl reaches one hand outward toward the rain, Sister clasps her hands together nervously, and Boy points upward at the dark clouds. Heavy rain pelts down around them as a massive spectral figure of a drummer materializes in the swirling storm clouds above, beating a drum β€” the source of the thunder. A large tree stands behind the children on the far right, and a lightning strike is visible on the distant horizon at left. The left ~40% of the image is open stormy sky and rain-soaked ground, clear of characters. Two small orange monkey-like creatures stand at the children's feet.

The drummer gets louder and louder. The sky turns dark gray, then almost black. That fun boom turns into a crack of thunder that shakes our teeth. 'Um,' says Girl, as fat raindrops smack her hand. 'I think the band is mad.' 'Bands do not get mad,' says Boy. But his voice shakes. Lightning flares and splits the sky. The cloud drummer pounds harder, and the rain comes down hard and fast. It is a bit scary now.

Page 7
In the lower half of the image, Girl, Boy, and Sister are running from right to left through heavy rain toward an open doorway of a house, which glows with warm golden light. Girl is in the lead closest to the door, arms outstretched and smiling excitedly. Boy is in the middle, running with a determined expression, arms pumping. Sister is at the far right, also running urgently toward the house. The scene is set outdoors at a dark, stormy time with diagonal rain streaking across the image and a large tree bending in the background. The top half of the image is mostly dark rainy sky with tree branches. Two small dogs are running alongside the children toward the house.

'Run!' I yell. We bolt for the house. Girl is fastest. Girl is always fastest. Boy pumps his arms fast. Rain soaks us. It drips from my hair. The door is open, with gold light spilling out. Two wet dogs run with us. They want inside too. We tumble in just as the sky gives its biggest crack yet.

Page 8
On the right side of the image, Boy, Girl, and Sister are dancing joyfully on a plain white background, each holding a towel and drying off. Boy is at the upper right, mid-dance step with a happy expression, holding an orange towel against his chest. Girl is at the lower right, dancing energetically with a wide smile, swinging a red fringed towel over her head with one arm. Sister is at the center-left, dancing with a cheerful grin, waving a light blue towel. Several pairs of kicked-off shoes are scattered around them on the ground, and a pair of orange sandals sits near the bottom right. The scene is set indoors against a clean white background.

We kick off our wet socks. Splat. Splat. Splat. Five wet socks by the door. One is still out in the grass! We dance in our bare feet on the dry floor. Boy grabs a towel and swings it over his head. 'I am the cloud man!' he yells. 'I am the cloud lady!' Girl swings her red towel and almost hits a lamp. I wave my blue towel like a flag. 'I am the full cloud band!' We dance and drip and laugh until the floor is almost a swimming pool.

Page 9
On the left side of the image, the family is gathered in a living room. Boy stands barefoot with his mouth wide open singing enthusiastically, one arm raised and pointing upward. Sister dances barefoot with her arms outstretched, moving energetically. Girl stands barefoot between them, also with arms raised joyfully, appearing to sing along. Behind the children, Dad stands smiling and watching with delight, while Mom has her hands pressed together in front of her chest, smiling warmly with an expression of amused wonder. The scene is set indoors in a room with a wardrobe and a sideboard against a teal-colored wall, with a warm brown floor. The right ~40% of the image is open background space.

Mom and Dad find us in the middle of the show. 'There were cloud people up there!' says Boy, opening his mouth wide to show them. 'They sang like this.' He takes the biggest breath he can and lets out a sound that is mostly just yelling. 'They did a jig,' I add, dancing carefully around Dad. 'There was a big band,' says Girl. 'Drums and horns and all. And then. A storm!' Dad grins. Mom laughs. 'We could feel the thunder,' she says. 'But we missed the show!'

Page 10
On the right side of the image, Dad sits smiling and playing a djembe drum, while Boy crouches barefoot beside him banging on an overturned pot. Girl sits barefoot nearby hitting a small pan, one arm raised joyfully. Mom leaps gracefully in a dancing pose with arms outstretched, and Sister jumps barefoot energetically beside her, both looking happy and mid-motion. The background is a soft, plain light blue, with the left side (50%) open and clear of characters or detail.

'Not for long,' says Dad. He goes and gets his big drum. Boom. Boom-boom. Boy grabs a pot. Clang. Clang. Clang. Girl finds a pan. Bang. Bang. Bang. Mom grabs my hands. We leap and spin and laugh, like a pair of cloud dancers. It is louder than the storm. It is sillier than the clouds. For one perfect, noisy minute, we are the best band in all the land. Well, the best band in the living room. Same thing.

Page 11
On the left side of the image, Boy, Girl, and Sister lie sleeping peacefully on a bed with blue pillows and sheets, their eyes closed with calm, restful expressions. Boy is at the top of the bed lying on his stomach, Girl is in the middle curled on her side, and Sister is closest to the foreground resting on her back. A window on the upper left reveals a nighttime sky with moonlit clouds and trees outside a suburban American neighborhood. The room is bathed in soft, dark teal tones reflecting the nighttime setting. The right side of the image is plain dark background.

Later, the house is quiet and the moon hangs low. I peek out the window one last time. The clouds are silver now, soft and still. Right there, tucked between two of them, the cloud man is on his back with his eyes closed. Arms folded. Feet up. Fast asleep. 'Goodnight, cloud man,' I whisper. Then I creep into bed next to Boy and Girl, and we close our eyes too. Somewhere up in the air, I bet he is dreaming about us.
