Catch Me If You Can! UFLI Foundations Lesson 69
Practice Words
This is Cod. Cod swims in the sea. Cod is quick, and Cod is slick. No man can catch Cod.
If a man gets close, Cod flicks a fin. Zip! Cod vanishes into the kelp. No net can snatch Cod. Not yet.
The sea stretches, big and flat. No ship. No net. No rod. No one can catch Cod. No one but Steve.
Steve stands on the sand. 'I bet I can catch Cod,' he says. 'I will grab it for lunch.' Steve has no rod, no net, no plan. But Steve has a big grin.
Splash! Steve dives in to catch Cod. But Cod is quick. Cod zips into a log and hides.
Steve checks the log. No fish! 'Where is Cod?' says Steve. He scans all sides. Cod ditches him and hides in the dim sea.
Look! Cod is in the kelp. Steve gets so close. He clutches at Cod. Zip! Cod slips past his hands.
Steve dashes to the sand. No Cod. He checks a rock. No Cod. 'Stop, Cod!' Steve yells. But he can not catch Cod yet.
Steve steps up on to the sand. He is wet and sad. 'That fish has wit,' he pants. But Steve still itches to catch Cod. Then he spots an odd lump in the sand.
A bucket! Steve grabs it and grins a big grin. 'Cod is quick,' says Steve. 'But I have a topnotch plan.'
Steve wades into the sea and sits still. He clutches his bucket. No splash. No dash. He is silent. One fish swims close. Then one more, and one more. They nip at his legs.
Snatch! Steve jumps up with Cod in the bucket. 'I did it!' yells Steve. 'A bucket can catch a fish!' Cod looks up at Steve. Steve looks at Cod and grins.
