Can Kids See Her? Jolly Phonics · Step 2, Unit 4: double letters
Practice Words
Grandad sits on the bed with a big red mug. He tells the best stories. I am snug in bed, and I look up and grin. 'Tell me a story, Grandad!'
Grandad grins a big grin. 'This story is odd,' he tells me. 'Wisp is a kid. But Wisp is just mist and wind. We can not see Wisp at all!' 'Is that true?' I ask. 'Just wait and see,' he tells me.
Wisp can sit just next to us. But we do not see Wisp at all. Just a dip! See the dip? Wisp keeps very, very still. Not a sound!
Drip, drop! In the rain we can just see Wisp. The rain splashes off Wisp. Splash! But all rush past. They miss Wisp.
It is chilly out. Some kids stop and point at Wisp. 'Look at that!' they yell. Wisp keeps very, very still. She is glad. The kids can just see Wisp!
In the morning, Wisp enters a classroom. She sits at a desk and picks up an art tool. It floats up! The lad at the next desk gasps and yells. Splash! The coffee spills!
'Don't be upset,' Wisp tells the lad. 'I just wish to do art.' 'Can I paint a grin?' the lad asks. He dips the brush and dabs carefully. He paints a grin on Wisp.
'Paint lots and lots!' Wisp tells the lad. He paints a star, a fat cat, notes and red food up on top. Wisp is happy, and the lad grins too.
Then Wisp paints stars and red marks on the arms. Paint spills and splatters as she skips! Splat, splat! Look at the footprints! A trail on the ground!
Wisp stands on a hill. Stars and plants and fun marks fill Wisp up. All can see Wisp! Wisp is happy, happy, happy.
'Is that true?' Grandad asks me. I think a bit. 'Not true,' I tell Grandad. 'It is a silly story!' Grandad grins. He tucks me in with a kiss.
Grandad shuts the door. But then the door opens up a bit. Hush! Is that Wisp? I do not see Wisp at all. I get the chills, and I tuck the covers up to the chin. Don't open that door! Don't open that door!
