Anansi Is Very Hungry Jolly Phonics · Step 2, Unit 1: y saying /ee/
Practice Words
Anansi is a proud spider. He has a big round body, smooth and plump. He pats it and grins. He is very smug.
Seven camps cook a big harvest feed. The pots are big and the dishes are hot. Yam, corn and nuts, crispy and crunchy! Anansi is very hungry, and he wants it all.
Anansi is greedy and can not pick a camp. He wants all seven big feeds! Weaver Bird sits up on a branch, and she thinks this is risky.
Anansi has a crafty plan. He gets a very long cord and cuts it into seven bits. Snip, snip! He is quick and handy.
He trots briskly from camp to camp, and all seven chiefs get a cord end. Back at his spot, he ties the cords around his waist, and he sits and waits.
Anansi waits and waits in the sun. He thinks about big pots and hot dishes, and he grins, smug and cocky. He is a very greedy spider.
All seven camps set out the food. The corn is crunchy and the yams are hot. All seven chiefs grin, and all seven chiefs tug the cords!
Yank, yank, yank! All seven cords jerk at his waist. Up he flips and he spins madly. The cords grip hard and do not snap.
The cords drag him and stretch him apart. His waist gets thin, very thin, and he can barely yelp, just a dinky peep.
At last the chiefs let the cords drop slack. Anansi flops flat on the soil. He sits up sadly. He has a thin, thin waist, and his grand round body is lost.
Anansi is tardy at all seven camps. The pots are empty, and the dishes are empty too. The animals are fed and glad, but Weaver Bird points at his thin waist. Bad luck, greedy Anansi!
Anansi trots back hungry and sad. From then on, all spiders are thin at the waist. If you pack too much food in your dish, think about greedy Anansi and his story!
