A Book With Legs UFLI Foundations Lesson 60
Practice Words
This is Ned's place. It is a nice home, and Ned's name is on the name plate.
'Snack and snack and snack! I am so sick of snacks,' says Ned. 'I can help,' says The Book. 'Take a chance, Ned. We can plant crops.'
Rip, rip! Ned tugs at the long grass. Small seeds drop on the land. 'Nice!' says Ned.
Ned has a hand full of seeds. 'Is this lots?' asks Ned. 'No, no,' says The Book. 'Get twice that. Get lots and lots!'
Bang, bang! Ned makes a big blade at the bench in the shop. He lifts it and winces. 'This blade has heft!'
Ned drags the big blade. He can not go at a fast pace. But he cuts long flat lines in the plot.
Ned glances at the plot. It is all dust and sand! 'Seeds must have wet land,' says The Book.
Back in the shop, Ned clangs and bangs at the bench. He makes a nice bucket. 'Fill it up with water,' says The Book.
Ned dips the bucket in the pond. He braces and tugs it up. 'This bucket is like a big rock!'
Ned digs a hole in the plot. He tips the water in. The land gets nice and damp, bit by bit. 'Look at that!' says Ned.
Ned sets the seeds in place, one by one. Small buds poke up in a thin line. 'When do I get the grub?' asks Ned.
'Rest, Ned,' says The Book. 'Let the sun do the job.' So Ned stands still by the crops. The plants get big and tall. This plot looks ace!
