A Minecraft plains biome landscape stretches across the scene, with a large birch tree on the left side and wide, flat grassland extending into the distance under a blue sky with scattered clouds. A low hill or mountain is visible in the far background. Small yellow flowers dot the bottom-left corner of the frame. A small chicken (Minecraft mob) pecks at the ground near the base of the birch tree on the left side of the image.

The plains are wide and flat, with green grass as far as you can see. Tall trees are rare here, so nothing blocks your view for a long way. You can look across to a neighboring hill in the blue distance. Small yellow flowers pop up near the grass. The plains are one of the most open biomes in all of Minecraft.

A Minecraft-style scene set in a sunny plains biome. In the centre, a blocky human child with dark skin, short dark hair, a teal shirt, and blue pants stands facing forward, holding a round pink object in one hand. To the left of the child, a pink pig stands on a patch of bare dirt, snout lowered as it sniffs the ground. To the right, a brown-and-white cow stands beneath a large tree with a green leaf canopy, resting in the cool shade. The grassy landscape stretches out with small bushes and tufts of grass under a clear blue sky. The scene occupies the right half of the image; the left half is a solid warm yellow panel for text.

Many calm mobs live in the plains. Cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep all wander the grass. They graze side by side like good neighbours. The cow rests in the cool shade of a tree, and the pig sniffs the dirt for a snack. When you first start playing, the plains are one of the easiest places to find food.

On the left side of the image, a group of Minecraft-style farm animals stands on a bright green grassy plain in daylight. Two black-and-white cows stand near some trees in the upper left, while two white chickens peck at the ground in the centre-left area. A pink pig grazes on the grass at the far left. The right side of the image is open green grass with no characters or objects, framed by a green decorative border. A small yellow flower sits in the bottom-right corner of the frame.

Cows, pigs, and chickens are some of the most common mobs in the plains. They can spawn in big groups all at once. Two black-and-white cows stand near the trees. Chickens peck at the ground, and a pink pig grazes on the grass. If you build a home in this neighbourhood, you will never be far from a meal.

Page 4
On the right side of the image, a group of Minecraft horses β€” brown, white with black spots, and dark black β€” stand together on a grassy plains biome near a wooden fence, some lowering their heads to graze on hay bales placed along the fence line. The left side is open green plains, providing clear space for text. The scene is set outdoors in bright daylight with rolling green grass, patches of dirt, and scattered vegetation in the background. A small chicken appears in the bottom-left corner of the frame.

Horses are one of the special mobs that spawn in the plains. You might hear a loud neigh before you see them grazing near a fence. Some are brown, some are white with black spots, and some are dark black. You can tame a horse and ride it across the flat land. The plains are a great place to build a farm or a home because the flat ground makes everything easy.

Page 5
A Minecraft-style character stands on the left side of the image at the edge of a lake, shown at a three-quarter angle while holding a fishing rod with the line cast into the water. The character stands upright in a relaxed fishing pose. The scene is set outdoors on a bright day beside a calm blue lake, with gently rolling grassy plains and a building visible in the background. The right side of the image is open grassy plain with no characters or detail. A chicken is visible in the bottom-left corner of the image.

Water lakes appear all across the plains, full of cod and salmon. Stand on the edge with a fishing rod and cast your line. Fishing is a great way to get food without having to chase animals around. A fat fish weighs more than you think. You will almost always catch something on your first try.

Page 6
On the right side of the image, a Minecraft cow stands on a grassy plains biome, head lowered as it peacefully grazes on the grass. The scene is set outdoors in bright daylight with rolling green terrain and patches of dirt visible in the background. A chicken can be seen further back in the middle of the scene, and a pink pig stands near the bottom-right corner of the frame.

Most of the animals in the plains are passive mobs. They eat grass and wander slowly across the hills. They will not attack you unless you attack them first. A cow lowers its head to graze, while a pig stands nearby and a chicken pecks in the middle of the field. The mobs are neighborly and quiet, so the plains are a calm and safe place to explore.

Page 7
A wide, flat grassy plain stretches across the left side of the image, dotted with bright yellow sunflowers swaying gently in the breeze, their tall stems bending slightly. Rolling green hills and darker tree-covered mountains rise in the background under a blue sky with white clouds. The right side of the image is open plain green grass with no detail, suitable for text overlay. A small white chicken stands in the bottom-right corner of the frame.

Some plains grow wide fields of bright sunflowers that always face the sun. You might spot eighty blooms in one field, bending gently in the breeze. Other plains are dotted with red, orange, and yellow wildflowers. All these splashes of colour spread out across the grass. Pick the flowers and use them to make dyes in Minecraft.

On the right side of the image, several Minecraft-style cows stand on a large patch of dry dirt and dust where the grass has been completely eaten away, surrounded by green blocky terrain. The cows are grouped together, grazing or standing idle on the bare, cracked ground, illustrating overgrazing. Thin patches of dying grass and exposed soil extend outward from where the cows stand. The scene is set outdoors in bright daylight across a grassy hillside landscape rendered in Minecraft's signature pixelated, blocky style.

In the real world, having too many animals in one area is a big problem. Their weight on the land adds up fast. When there are more animals than the land can feed, they eat all the grass. Without grass, the land turns into dry, bare dirt. You can see cracks form where the hooves have stamped over and over.

Page 9
On the left side of the image, a group of horses and cows stand and graze on a green grassy field, their large hooves having churned up visible trails of dark, torn-up earth and mud beneath them. The scene is set outdoors on a bright day with trees and bushes in the background. A few small chickens are scattered around the edges of the scene, and a yellow flower is visible in the lower-right foreground. The right portion of the image is open green grass, providing clear space for text overlay.

A large animal like a cow or horse is a real heavyweight, with big, heavy hooves. When they walk over the same ground many times, they pack the soil down and tear up the grass. You can see the torn-up trails in the dark dirt. A small chicken weighs much less. It causes much less damage to the land.

Page 10
On the right side of the image, a Minecraft-style farmer character stands at a three-quarter angle facing the viewer, in front of a wooden-fenced pen containing several healthy black-and-white cows on a bright, sunny green pasture. The character holds a wheat item in one hand, looking toward the animals in the enclosure with a caring posture. The left side of the image is a plain green background suitable for text overlay. A pink pig stands near the bottom-right corner of the frame.

A good farmer knows how many animals the land can feed. Too many will destroy the very grass they need to live. The harm can outweigh the good. A smart farmer holds up some wheat and counts the cows in the pen. Farmers must balance their herds to keep the land healthy for everyone.
