This is Anansi. He sits in his web with a big pot. 'I will take all the wisdom in the land,' he grins. 'I will keep it in this pot.'
Anansi stops on the path. Tortoise tells him a fine plan. Anansi tips the plan in the pot and shuts the lid. The pot is full up.
'I will hide the pot up in this tall tree,' Anansi grins. He hugs the pot to his chest and grips the trunk, but he slides back. Slide, slide, slide!
Ntikuma sits on a rock with his firewood. 'Dad,' he calls, 'tie the pot on the back, not the chest! Then all the legs can grip.' That is a wise plan.
Anansi hides his face on the bark. His small kid has a plan that is not in the pot. The pot can not take it all.
Anansi takes the pot on his back and ties the rope. His legs grip the trunk well. Up, up, up he glides!
But the rope slips! The pot takes a dive and hits a root. Crack! The lid spins off in the grass.
The pot splits! The wisdom drifts out far and wide, off to the hills. Anansi sits in the grass. His pot is empty.
Anansi and Ntikuma sit still in the ferns. Weaver-bird lands on the pot and sings a note. Anansi looks at his legs and smiles a small smile.
Anansi counts on his legs. 'All the wise plans in the land,' he mutters, 'and I did not act on them.' Ntikuma smiles. 'The wisdom is not in a pot, Dad. It is in us all.'
The wisdom drifts in the wind, all across the land. Anansi tells the tale in the glade. 'That was a big mistake!' he jokes, and they all smile.
Inside the home, Ntikuma fixes a stuck rope, and the elders gaze at him. Up in the clouds, Nyame smiles. No pot can take all the wisdom, and that is fine.
