Practice Words
A bird chirps in the park. The Girl sniffs and sniffs. What is that smell? A thing lurks in the green shrub. She can see it peek out at her.
Out it bursts! It is a pig! The pig is stinky and muddy. Its fur is thick with dirt. 'A pig!' yells The Girl. 'A real pig at the park!'
'Come on, Pig!' The Girl runs down the hill. Pig runs after her with a big goofy grin. Flies swirl and buzz all around them.
'Pigs like mud. Go on, Pig!' Pig jumps in the mud pool. Sploosh! Mud spurts up high. The Girl gets wet and dirty, but she just grins.
The Girl goes up a big tree. 'Come up, Pig!' But Pig will not go up. Pig sits in the dirt with a grumpy look.
The Girl puts her boots on Pig's feet. Pig burps a big, loud burp! The Girl sings with joy. What a fun song it is.
The sun sets. The Girl turns to Pig. 'Come home with me, Pig,' she says low. 'But hush. We must be sneaky.' She steps up to the way in and peeks. No Mum!
They creep down the hall. Hush, hush! Drip, drop! Dirt falls. Muddy footprints trail after them, but The Girl creeps on.
The Girl sticks curlers in her curly hair. Then she puts red lip paint on Pig. Pig smirks at itself in the glass. What a mess they are!
'What is that?' says Mum. Pig drips mud and dirt. 'It is my pig,' says The Girl. 'Can I keep it?' 'No dirt in my house!' says Mum. 'To the bath. Now!'
They fill the tub with suds. The Girl scrubs Pig's fur. They stir and splash and scrub. Layer by layer, the mud swirls off.
It is not a pig. It is a pug! It has soft fur and a curly tail. The pug licks her chin. 'I will keep it forever,' says The Girl.
