Ted is going to his friend's birthday party. Ted is blind and cannot see, but that doesn't matter. He knows the way!
Kim is his neighbour, and she is coming too. 'Do you want me to help you to get there, Ted? Are you sure you are okay?' Ted smiles, 'Don't worry about me, Kim. I know the way to the party.'
Ted stops at the corner of two streets, breathing in the air. 'Yes, the fish shop is over there, and so that means ... turn right!' Ted turns right, and Kim goes after him. She is very surprised.
'How did you know we had to turn left?' Kim asks. 'I smell the air to see where to go next,' says Ted. 'The fish shop is on the way to the party, so by finding the fish shop from the smell, I know the way.'
Ted stops at a wall, and starts touching it. 'What are you doing, Ted? Do you need a rest?' asks Kim. 'This wall tells me the way. There is no other wall like it in town, and we need to turn here,' Ted says, and turns left.
'Watch out, Ted! You will get wet! You're going to step in a puddle!' 'Don't worry, Kim, I know it is there,' Ted walks around it, his shoes still dry.
'This stick is helping me see,' Ted says. 'I could feel the water with the stick, and so I knew where it was.' 'Wow,' Kim says, 'that's so great! We're nearly at the party now.'
Ted and Kim walk along the street. Just then, a big dog starts barking. 'Look out, Ted! The dog might bite you!' Kim shouts. Ted did not get close to the dog, and turned left down a nearby street.
'Wow,' says Kim, 'let me guess this time. You can hear the dog barking, you know it lives there, and so that's how you knew to turn?' 'That's right,' says Ted, 'this is the way. There are many things that tell me where to go.'
'This is the way, because I can smell it. I can touch it, I can hear it, and my stick helps me see what I can't,' Ted says, 'and now, we are getting closer to the party. I can smell cake!'
'We are here at the party!' says Kim. 'I can't wait to get inside. I'm sure there are a lot of things worth eating!' Ted smiles, 'Many things. I can smell and hear them now!'
Ted and Kim are very happy. They have cake, and they are eating with their friends. 'I am glad you know the way, Ted,' says Kim.
