In school today, we have been set a new and exciting task. We are to carefully catch and study an insect.
I ask Kim if she would like to work with me, and she has the idea to catch a dragonfly.
We explore the playground and after a while we find one.
But it is far too swift for us to catch in our hands.
We run after it until we are exhausted. The dragonfly lands daintily on a nearby leaf.
I suggest we can use a racket to swat it. Kim says that could damage the insect's filmy wings.
'Look at that!' Kim exclaims, pointing up at a lovely spider's web. And we have an idea.
We create the frame of a net by rolling up some wide leaves.
And I use it to carefully lift the lacy spider's web off the branch.
It works a treat. We soon have a wonderful, large dragonfly in the centre of our home made net.
To finish the task, we study the dragonfly carefully and take note of the number of wings and eyes and legs. It has a very long, narrow body.
Then our task is done, and we let the dragonfly go. It flies off as fast as it can.
