This is the morning that Min is to start school. She feels like such a big girl. But no one has taught her yet how to put on her new uniform. The crisp white top has buttons that she has never used before.
Min runs through the house in search of someone to help her get ready for her first day.
He mother is in the kitchen. 'Mummy, can you help me put on my new shirt?' Min asks politely. 'I will in a minute Min, I just need to finish this pie.'
Min can't wait. She runs outside to look for her Daddy. She is sure he will help her get ready for such an important day.
'Daddy, can you help me with my uniform?' she asks. Her father is feeding the chickens. They cluck impatiently at him, and threaten to peck his fingers. 'I will be there soon, Min. I just have to feed the hens.'
Grandpa is too busy as well. He is taking the cows down to the bottom field where they will spend the day eating the juicy, green grass. 'I'm sure Grandma will help you put it on,' he says as she waves the top sadly at him.
'Grandma, please will you help me put on my uniform?' Min asks her grandmother. The old woman is bent over the rake. 'I will be there soon Min. I need to do this before the day gets too hot,' says Granny.
Then Min sees her brother. He must know how hard it is to get ready for school on the first day. She has barely even opened her mouth when Tim cuts her off. 'Sorry Min. I must get water for the livestock before we go to school.'
Min can hardly believe it. It's her first day and no one has time to show her how to put on the school shirt.
She decides she will not wait. She is a big girl, going to school today. Surely she can put on a silly shirt.
But when Min gets her arms through, she feels a draught. The front is at the back, and Min can't reach the buttons.
Her family laugh. Stubborn little Min. If you had just waited a moment, we would have been here to help. Mummy does the buttons up the front, and Tim has her school shoes ready to go.
Now, Min is finally ready for school. Have a great first day, Min!
