Jack is on a walk with Meow. They are by the shore.

He can see an odd bit of kelp. It floats in the waves.

Jack makes a rod to see if he can snag the kelp.

He has it on the line! Pull it in, Jack.

Oh! This is no bit of kelp. What is she?

The girl sits in the waves. She says that her name is Mer.

Mer had a big fight with her pals. They are not friends now.

Jack is sad for Mer. He wants her to come to the farm.

Mer can be out of the sea for a bit, but not for a long time. How can they get there?

Mer dives. She finds a boat. They put water in it. Jack loads in Meow and pulls the boat.

Mer is fun. She tells jokes. Her life is not like theirs. She tells them of life in the sea.

They make a moat with a trench to the sea so that Mer can stop by when she likes.
