Clean the Rainbow (Compound Words)

Two-syllable compound words formed by joining two smaller words together.
It was late in the day when a letter came for The Rainbow Queen. Her dear friend, The Wind Princess was coming to stay and would be there by sunrise.
All the fairies are thrilled. They rush to get the housework done so that The Rainbow Tower gleams.
But The Rainbow Broom is cranky. Kate cannot get it to come and work. When she tries to grab it, the broom growls at her.
It flies off in a huff and takes Kate with it. She hangs onto the straw at the end of the broom.
Before the broom can get too far away, Kate leaps on top of it. She pulls it to the ground.
Then she sees why the broom is so angry. She forgot to clean it last time it was used, and now it is covered in dirt and cobwebs.
Kate brings the broom inside and gets it into the bathtub. She soaps it down and scrubs away the dirt.
Then she combs the straw to make it lie neat and flat. The broom looks fresh and ready to go.
The broom is happy now. Kate and The Rainbow Broom get to work and sweep the dust off the stripes of colour.
Just as they finish, they hear the other fairies cheer. The Wind Princess is here!
The queen stands under her rainbow, at the top of her tower to welcome her friend. All the fairies have done such a good job to make it shine.
The Wind Princess praises the fairies for their hard work. She looks at the sparkly rainbow for a long time. Kate is so proud. And she makes sure she cleans the broom before she puts it away.
